From Fragile Sessions to Scalable Automation: Evaluating FlaUI as a Modern Successor to UFT

Automating a legacy desktop application sounds simple – until scalability breaks, tests become fragile, and your framework can’t keep up with Agile and DevOps. In a complex, multi-market ERP ecosystem owned and customised by Nestlé for Nespresso, we hit those limits fast. So what actually works? In this talk, we share how we challenged our assumptions, benchmarked modern tools, and adopted FlaUI as a sustainable path forward. From real failures to practical wins, you’ll see how to evaluate desktop automation tools beyond hype and design a realistic and phased migration strategy that delivers long-term value.

In this talk, Krzysztof and Virginia will present how FlaUI was evaluated in an enterprise context, covering UIA accessibility constraints, execution repeatability, reporting integration, and CI/CD feasibility using GitHub. They will explain how these criteria were assessed beyond basic feature comparison and what factors proved critical in practice. The talk will also outline how proof-of-concept results were translated into a phased, production-ready adoption strategy, with a focus on risk mitigation, reliability, and long-term maintainability in complex automation environments.
